Day 1: Flight from Seattle to Lima

Bienvenidos! Welcome to Peru. You will be pick up at Lima Airport and transferred to the hotel in Miraflores. (Approximately at 8:00am)


Around 6:30pm Barranco & Dinner Show starts. You will discover the bohemian district of Barranco and its traditional Bridge of Sighs. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner and a spectacular show at “La Dama Juana” restaurant, featuring amazing local dance, music and Peruvian folklore. (Optional Lima City tour and/or Gastronomic tour, additional cost if you arrive before 8am)

 Day 2: Madre de Dios - Puerto Maldonado


This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Amazon. On your arrival of your flight to Puerto Maldonado, you will go directly to Hoja Nueva Lodge in the rainforest and tour the non-profit dedicated to rainforest conversation. Meet with founder Ava Holmes and co-founder Samantha Swicker and learn more about their project in Madre de Dios. Try some regional specialties like juanes, which are banana leaves stuffed with rice and chicken or pork. (We will follow the dietary restrictions noted on your forms.) Then, settle in and relax.

Day 3: Las Piedras - Hoja Nueva

First thing in the morning, you will visit the Macaw clay lick, where usually a few dozen to hundreds of these beautiful rainbow birds gather to eat the nutrient-rich clay. Then, climb up the El Mirador, a lookout points where the earth appears to curve over itself and you can admire the whole city before you. Experience the dreamlike Amazon waterfalls, where the water flows through the jungle before pouring into the river. You can go behind the falls, take a swim, or if the group feel so inclined, even float down the Amazon river.


In the afternoon, go on a cacao tour with a family that practices sustainable cacao growing of both “chuncho,” the rare, native jungle variety, as well as regular commercial varieties grown via agroforestry, an integration of trees and agricultural crops and animals on the same plot of land.


Lastly, return to Hoja Nueva Lodge for dinner and a night reptile walk.

Day 4: Puerto Maldonado – Cusco


At around 5 a.m., go on an early morning bird walk, then explore trails, streams and the jungle.

We will take the return boat to Puerto Maldonado for a flight to Cusco in the afternoon.


You will have a free afternoon to relax and acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 5: Cusco – Cusco City tour


After a healthy breakfast you will start the Imperial Cusco City tour. You will visit four archaeological sites: Sacsayhuaman, and incredible site of huge stones where the Incas showed to the conquistadors the power of their Empire. Q’enqo, a ceremonial center; Pucapucara, a control point that served as a kind of customs office; and Tambomachay, a sacred place where Incas worshiped the water.

Day 6:  Sacred Valley Tour

The tourist bus will pick you up between 8:30am to 9:00am; you will head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the way, you will make a stop to marvel at the classic view of the Urubamba River as it snakes its way through the valley. Your journey continues to the small village of Pisac, where you will see the colorful typical handicraft market. Then a trip to the archeological complex of Pisac, where our knowledgeable guide will explain about the history and Inca architecture. Afterward our professional driver will take us to the next stop, Urubamba where we will taste the best regional food. Then you will head to the most excited archeological site of Ollantaytambo - known as the Inca living city, it still has the original streets, with channels of water flowing in from every side. You will travel to the upper part of Ollantaytambo to see the biggest sculpture of their main God called Wiracocha carved into the mountain.  Then you will be transfer to the hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 7:  Machu Picchu

The beginning of a new adventure! we´ll pick you up at your hotel around 6am and take you to the station in Ollantaytambo from where you will board the train to km 104, Chachabamba. Here at the control point you will register with your guide. We will begin our trek visiting the first archeological site of Chachabamba. Then we will begin to ascend for 3 hours to the second archeological site of Winayhuayna (8,858 feet) where you will see religious, agricultural and urban sectors, and ceremonial water fountains. Then we will continue hiking for more than 1 hour to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) from where we can appreciate the city of Machu Picchu, we can take our first photos from the higher part, later we descend for about 45 minutes until we reach the control point, and then we will take a bus to descend to Aguas Calientes town. There, we will spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

Day 8:  Machu Picchu – Cusco

This is the final and most spectacular leg of the trail to Machu Picchu. We will have an early breakfast and then take the first bus which leaves at 5:30 to get to Machu Picchu. So, we can be at the citadel early to see the sun rise. We will have a thorough explanation of the Inca construction; a walking tour is given by your guide for about 2 hours and after all you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves. If you want to climb Huayna Picchu from where we can appreciate Machu Picchu from a different vantage point, it is recommended to book in advance (not included). Later, we will again descend to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco and then return to your hotel.

Day 9:  Rainbow Mountain

We will pick you up early (3a.m.) from your Cusco hotel and set out on a drive through the South Valley. Once we reach the Inkintuyoc Bridge, we will have breakfast. We then start off on our hike, following a lovely stream. You will be immediately surprised by herds of alpacas and llamas. We will have consistent views of the Ausangate Mountain. We will hike through villages and interact with the local residents. We will stop for a box lunch along the trail.

Back on the trail, we encounter more of the traditional elements of this trek. We have the prospect of seeing chinchillas and vicunas. Vicunas are the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru. Many red mountains are also a highlight of this portion of the hike.

After a total hike of approximately 3 1/2 hours, we finally reach our destination we came to see: The Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft). After getting over the initial shock of its beauty, you will have time to explore the area. You will have time to take pictures and soak up the environment. At this point, it is time to go back down. We will hike downhill the way we came. The hike will take 3 hours. Our bus will be waiting for us when we return.

We will embark on the 3-hour drive back to Cusco and drop you off at your Cusco hotel. Approximate arrival time is 8pm.

Day 10:  Lima


When you have finished, you will be seen off like royalty. After you eat a hearty regional breakfast, we will deliver you in style to the airport, where your flight awaits. We’ll help with whatever your need: check-ins, tickets, luggage, etc.

Just remember to come back and vacation with us again. You can never see too much of Peru.
