Take a day trip out to one of Peru's most visually shocking natural attractions. Whether you're pressed for time or just have a day to spare in Cusco, Moray and Salineras are an Incan phenomenon worth seeing.
Itinerary, departing from Cusco City year-round:
Pick up from hotel, see town of Maras
See Moray, professional tour of the agricultural development
Return to Cusco at 2:30 p.m.
Moray is a site located northwest of Cusco on a high plateau. This archaeological complex contains a system of terraces, mostly enormous circular depressions, the largest of which is approximately 30 m (98 ft) deep. Moray's climate conditions makes for a prototype of a greenhouse, which helped the Incas provide the world with about 60% of the vegetable goods.
In the northwest area of the Maras village are the famous “salt works” (Salineras). The Maras Salineras are constituted of about 3,000 small pools. People irrigate the pools during the dry season, with salty water emanating from a natural spring located on the top of the complex, so that when water evaporates the salt contained in it will slowly solidify. This process takes approximately one month, and a considerable amount of solid salt is harvested.

Discover the Sacred Valley of the Incas on this full day excursion from Cusco. Travel to the scenic town of Pisac, one of the most famous places for indigenous handicrafts and to see a Catholic Mass if traveling on a Sunday. Then, head over to the ruins of the Ollantaytambo (a must-see in the area) and the Temple of the Sun, a mysteriously built structure with massive 12 foot tall stones.
Sacred Valley is composed of rivers that descend through canyons and valleys, and has numerous archaeological monuments and indigenous villages. You will also notice the abundance of stepped agricultural areas or “andinas” in the Sacred Valley.

Cusco, often referred to as the 'Archaeological Capital of the Americas,' is a beautiful city riddled with contrasts between the indigenous styles and the modern western world. It is these contrasts that have given Cusco its rare beauty. Cusco has a lot to offer a visitor and most travelers usually end up entranced by this vibrant city and stay longer than first planned.
The tour starts at the impressive Temple of the Sun - Qoricancha, the main religious center of the Incas dedicated to the Sun Cult, where the walls of the temple were entirely covered with gold. From here you will go by bus to visit four archaeological sites located just outside the city - Sacsayhuaman, famous for its enormous carved rocks, the Q’enqo ceremonial center, Pucapucara, a control point that served as a kind of custom office, and Tambomachay, a sacred place where Incas worshipped water.

Testimonials
I went on a group trip with Conquer Peru and it was the most incredible experience! I've never been on a trip that packed SO MANY activities and experiences into two weeks, but I truly feel like I got to see the best of the best. Not only did we travel across the entire country, seeing Machu Picchu and the Amazon, Lima and Lake Titicaca, but we knew every restaurant, hotel, and site we visited was an authentic, high quality experience because of Matilde's expertise and knowledge about Peru. It's so fun to travel with a local who can be both a guide and a friend as you take in all the sights. My favorite part was the unique hotels Matilde found for us, like the bungalows along the Amazon river. And of course, Machu Picchu exceeded all my expectations. It really was the trip of a lifetime, thanks to Conquer Peru's organizing!
